raklet alternative
The alternative to Raklet is owning the thing.
Raklet rents you a membership platform. We build you one you own: directory, events, dues, and community, on your domain, your Stripe account, and your data.
the honest version
Raklet does a real job well
It gets a membership org live fast - CRM, directory, events, payments, and a renewals flow - for a monthly fee that looks painless next to a custom build. If your board needs something this quarter and nobody on staff can maintain software, that's a legitimate reason to pick it. We'll say so on a call.
Here's what it doesn't do: give you the thing back. Your member records and transaction history live in Raklet's platform, under pricing that moves with your contact count, not your budget cycle. Leave, and you're exporting your contacts and rebuilding somewhere else. Stay, and the monthly line item never goes away. Full disclosure - we're a development studio, not a SaaS vendor, and we build the owned alternative described here. So here's the honest trade-off, both ways.
rent vs own
The real question isn't features. It's whether you rent or own.
| All-in-one membership SaaSe.g. Raklet | A platform you ownbuilt for you | |
|---|---|---|
| Time to launch | Days - sign up and configure | Weeks - it's a real build |
| Upfront cost | Lower | Higher - a fixed project price |
| Cost over time | Monthly, scaling with your contact count and plan tier | You own the asset; hosting + care, not per-contact rent |
| Payments | A per-transaction service fee by tier, on top of gateway fees | Your own Stripe account - standard Stripe fees only |
| Your domain | Custom domain on Premium, or as a paid add-on | Yours from day one |
| Your member data | Lives inside their platform | Yours - in your database, on your accounts |
| Design and features | Their templates, styled within their system | Built around how your org actually runs |
| If you outgrow or leave | Export, then rebuild somewhere else | You already own it - nothing to escape |
| Who maintains it | They do - you're a tenant | We do, on a Care Plan - or your team. Either way it's yours |
// a fair comparison: SaaS wins on speed and upfront cost; owning wins on fees, fit, and the long run. Accurate as of October 2026.
what raklet publishes
Raklet's pricing, from Raklet
Read from Raklet's own pricing page on 26 October 2026. Software pricing moves, so verify before you budget.
| Plan | Price | Service fee per transaction |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 4% + $0.60 |
| Essentials | $49/month billed annually ($59 monthly) | 3% + $0.60 |
| Professional | $99/month billed annually ($119 monthly) | 2% + $0.60 |
| Premium | $399/month billed annually ($499 monthly), at its entry contact band | 1% + $0.60 |
- The transaction fee is charged in addition to payment gateway fees.
- A custom domain comes with Premium, or costs $29/month as an add-on. Each extra 1,000 contacts is another $29/month.
- Premium is sold in contact bands, from 5,000 contacts up, so the price rises as your list grows.
- Raklet offers a discount on Professional and Premium annual plans to qualifying nonprofits.
what you actually get
Member profiles and a searchable directory
Filterable by whatever your org tracks: industry, chapter, interests, leadership role.
Events with QR check-in
Ticketed or free, with QR tickets scanned at the door, tied to Zoom when you run hybrid.
Dues, renewals, and donations
On your own Stripe account, so the money is yours the moment it clears, not yours minus a platform fee.
A members-only community
Discourse with single sign-on, or a Discord server. aa-ma.org moved its community to Discord in August 2026, and the member-only channels open and close automatically with each member's Stripe membership.
An admin dashboard
Active member counts, renewal tracking, and the engagement reporting a board actually asks for at a meeting.
A content site your team edits
Built on Sanity, so adding a page or swapping a photo doesn't require a developer.
this is for you if
- You've been on Raklet for a few years and the monthly line item has started to feel like rent.
- Your contact count keeps pushing you toward the next plan or contact add-on.
- You want your own domain, your own Stripe account, and your own member data, without paying a tier for it.
- You want the platform to be an asset on your books, not a subscription with no end.
stay on raklet if
- You're a new organization and need something live this month.
- Budget is tight and a Raklet plan covers what you need today.
- You don't have anyone (us included) to maintain a custom platform long term.

how moving off raklet works
Architecture Review
We map what you have today - members, events, payment history, content - against what the new platform needs, and tell you honestly what transfers cleanly and what needs re-entry. You leave with a plan you own, even if you don't build with us.
Migration plan
Your member and contact data gets exported, mapped, and imported. Recurring billing is the careful part: whether saved cards can move depends on how your payments are set up today, and where they can't, members re-enter payment at their next renewal, so we time the switch around your renewal calendar.
Platform System build
Your platform, themed to your brand, stood up and tested before any member sees it - built, deployed, and documented by one accountable owner.
Care Plan
After launch we keep it fast, secure, and current, or hand you the keys with documentation if your team wants to self-serve. Either way it's your Stripe account, your domain, and your data.
common questions
Is this more expensive than Raklet?
In year one, usually yes - a fixed build costs more upfront than a subscription. After that it depends on your contact count and which Raklet tier you'd be on, because Raklet's pricing scales with contacts and adds a per-transaction fee, and an owned platform doesn't. We'll run the comparison on your real numbers, not a generic one.
What does Raklet actually cost?
Read from Raklet's own pricing page on 26 October 2026: Free at $0, Essentials at $49/month, Professional at $99/month, and Premium at $399/month, all billed annually (monthly billing is $59, $119, and $499). Each tier also charges a service fee on every transaction, from 4% + $0.60 on Free down to 1% + $0.60 on Premium, in addition to payment gateway fees. Raklet also offers discounted Professional and Premium plans to qualifying nonprofits. Pricing moves, so check their page before you budget.
Can you migrate us off Raklet?
Yes. Raklet lets you export your contacts, which we map into the new platform along with your events and content. We've moved organizations off Wild Apricot and off WordPress before. Recurring billing is the one part that needs planning: if saved cards can't move with you, members re-enter payment at their next renewal, so we schedule the switch around it.
Do we need a developer on staff afterward?
No. Content, events, and member management happen in tools built for non-developers. Anything that needs code - a new feature or a design change - goes through us as a Care Plan request.
What if we're not ready to leave Raklet yet?
Then don't. This page is for the point where renting starts costing more than it's worth, not to talk anyone out of a tool that's working for them right now.
Do we actually own everything?
Yes - the code, the design, the domain, the Stripe account, and the member data are yours. No per-contact pricing, no platform transaction fee, no walled garden.
